Metallica’s production is like five times that of Five Finger Death Punch‘s already impressive production according to Zoltan Bathory.
In a recent interview with ABC News, the Five Finger Death Punch mastermind and rhythm guitarist shared his thoughts on Metallica’s beast of a tour and stage production. In the interview, Bathory also touches on the bands cemented status as a global arena band.
It’s been a while since Five Finger Death Punch was an opening band, and Metallica may be the only act to get them to reprise that role.
“We have been an arena band for a few years now,” guitarist Zoltan Bathory tells ABC Audio. “So we would not open for a band at this point, it makes no sense.”
But, as Bathory puts it, “Metallica’s Metallica.”
“Metallica is more than a band at this point,” Bathory says. “To me, that’s the crystallization of this [heavy metal] genre.”
FFDP is among the openers on the bill for Metallica’s ongoing M72 tour, supporting their new album, 72 Seasons. Their next show with the “Enter Sandman” legends takes place Sunday 5 November 2023, in St. Louis.
“When we tour, we have a giant infrastructure ourselves, but … [the M72 tour] is like five times that,” Bathory laughs. “It’s absolute insanity.”
“You have to see it to believe it,” he adds. “It’s massive. It’s moving a city, almost, like every week.”

Metallica’s ‘M72’ world tour is featuring two-night stops in nearly two dozen cities. Presented worldwide by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey (in North America only) and promoted by Live Nation, the 46-show trek launched in Amsterdam on 27 April 2023 and comprises shows all over Europe and North America through to 2024. Each ‘No Repeat Weekend’ on the ‘M72’ world tour will feature two completely different setlists and support lineups.
The tour features a bold new in-the-round stage design that relocates the famed Metallica Snake Pit to centre stage, as well as the ‘I Disappear’ full-tour pass and the debut of discounted tickets for fans under 16 years of age. Other opening acts for the tour include Pantera, Mammoth WVH, Ice Nine Kills, Architects, Volbeat and Greta Van Fleet. The European Leg of the world tour also featured esteemed dutch metal acts Epica and Nightwish’s Floor Jansen.
