We’re back again with another friendly reminder post, as unfortunately, once again, innocent Five Finger Death Punch fans have fallen victim to online scams.
Yes, unfortunately, scammers are still actively targeting dedicated Five Finger Death Punch (5FDP) fans by impersonating band members, official pages, and fan groups in an attempt to steal money and personal information.
We’ve recently been alerted that scammers are pretending to be FFDP UK (yes, us!) to deceive fans into handing over their money. They use our profile photo, claim to be from FFDP UK, and sadly, some people have already lost large sums of cash. As you can imagine, this is incredibly upsetting for us.
The admin team here wanted to make this post to flag this and to set the record straight. FFDP UK will never ask you for money. We’ll never try to sell you a membership card. We don’t have merchandise. We don’t have WhatsApp. We don’t have Telegram. We can’t get you VIP tickets to shows. We can’t get you meets and greets with the band or put you in touch with them. We are literally fans, just like you.
We want to ensure you stay safe within the online 5FDP fan community and can easily identify these fraudulent schemes so we’re here with another reminder to try to spread the word and help keep you safe.
How the scams work
Scammers often create fake profiles using stolen images and official logos to appear legitimate. They primarily operate on platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp, and direct messages on social media. Some of the most common scams include:
- Fake Celebrity Messages: Scammers pose as Ivan Moody or other band members, claiming to want a personal connection with fans.
- Paid “Fan Club” Memberships: They ask for payment (often via gift cards or bank transfers) for a non-existent VIP fan club, exclusive meet-and-greets, or backstage access.
- Romance Scams: They emotionally manipulate fans, pretending to have romantic feelings and asking for money for “travel expenses” or “private meetings.”
- Merchandise Scams: They offer exclusive or discounted merchandise that never arrives once payment is made.
How to spot a Scam
It’s crucial to be cautious and recognise the warning signs of a scam. Here are some key red flags:
✔️ Five Finger Death Punch and band members do NOT personally message fans asking for money, personal details, or gifts.
✔️ Five Finger Death Punch fanpages and fan groups will never ask you for money or try to sell you exclusive membership cards or perks.
✔️ Five Finger Death Punch (and its members) do not have a Telegram, WhatsApp, Email address or private fan club that requires payment.
✔️ Official accounts are always verified (usually via blue tick). You can check out the full list of official 5FDP pages here if you’re unsure.
✔️ If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
✔️ Poor grammar, strange phrasing, and odd requests are major warning signs.
✔️ If someone claiming to be a band member refuses to verify their identity via a LIVE video call, it’s a scam. Be cautious of Deepfake technology – AI generated videos of band members designed to fool you and win your trust. And also, be wary of AI-generated documents, such as fake driving licences and passports, used to make scams appear more convincing.
What to do if you encounter a scam
If you or someone you know has been contacted by a scammer, take these steps immediately:
- Do NOT engage further. Block and report the fake account.
- Warn others. Share this information with friends and fellow fans. Where you can, provide links to the fake profile so fellow 5FDP fans can block and/or report the account in question.
- Report the scam to the platform. Most social media sites allow you to report impersonation.
- If money has been sent, contact your bank or payment provider. They may be able to help recover lost funds.
- File a report with your local authorities. This helps raise awareness and could aid in investigations.
