“I can drive to this!” DMC reacts to Five Finger Death Punch and it may just be our favourite reaction yet.
You’ve seen Chali 2NA, Sen Dog and Xzibit react to Five Finger Death Punch, now its the turn of American rapper, DMC of hip-hoppers RUN DMC fame to listen to ‘This Is The Way ft. DMX’.
Listening to the track, DMC said, “This just punched me in the face and knocked me out! I can drive to this. I can ride to this. It’s thunder, it’s lightning, it’s the perfect storm of music.”
“Wow. Okay. Woah. There’s a lot of emotion there. It’s a beautiful song but its rough! (laughs) It’s amazing how they got X to fit in with that. The saying is amazing. X’s presence, X’s delivery takes it there. The struggle, the dark with the light, the bad with the good, the pain with the joy. This is how X lived his life. This record is very emotional, it’s very musical, it’s very well rounded.”
“I expected to get punched in the face but I literally got punched in the face. Like it woke me up. It’s very spiritual but it’s still aggressive. Like how did they pull this off? They took the volatile nature of us and expressed it in a way that everyone can feel and understand without losing their power. It’s a game changer for sure. It’s like Bruce Lee says ‘Fight without fighting!’. This is some Bruce Lee shit!”
‘AfterLife’ deluxe includes the original 12 tracks released in 2022, recorded with the band’s longtime producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne) in addition to four bonus tracks. The bonus tracks come in forms of acoustic versions of the three of the album’s most played songs ‘The End’, ‘Judgement Day’ and, ‘Thanks For Asking’. The deluxe digital edition also includes a brand new song, ‘This Is The Way’ featuring the legendary late rapper DMX. The official music video for ‘This Is The Way’ (feat. DMX) will be directed by inluential filmmaker Hype Williams, a longtime friend and close collaborator of the late DMX.
Hailed by the New York Times in 2024 as ‘The Nineties Wunderkind’, Hype Williams is known for his seminal work with luminaries like Tupac, Wu-Tang Clan, and Jay-Z amongst others. The video, which was originally will be released coinciding with the deluxe edition of Afterlife” on Friday 5 April 2024.
Speaking on the collaboration with DMX, Five Finger Death Punch’s Zoltan Bathory said, “Music is meant to be shared, and it starts at the top with us, the artists. We have always embraced the mixing of genres, whether it be the remake of LL Cool J’s ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’ featuring Tech N9ne as a guest or our collaboration with blues warrior Kenny Wayne Shepherd, country star Brantley Gilbert, and Brian May, the legendary guitarist of Queen, on the song ‘Blue On Black’.”
